Ground was officially broken on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, for a new 127-room Marriott Residence Inn on the campus of the Chesnut Run Innovation and Science Park (CRISP) along Route 141.
MRA Group Executive Vice President and Partner Phil Butler said it's a milestone.
"I think this is absolutely going to be a beacon for those that see it and say 'you know something's going on, this campus is really here,'" said Butler.
He said it's taken a bit for his team to realize the local importance of the redevelopment of the former DuPont site, but they know now.
"I don't know if I've met anybody that hasn't said 'I used to work on the campus,' or 'my father worked on that campus,' or 'I had a cousin that worked on that campus,'" said Butler. "They'll tell you where things are in the building, and then they say 'thank you.'"
7th District State Senator Spiros Mantzavinos said the Chestnut Run rebirth is a welcome sight.
"Now we're starting to see the benefit and the fruits of their [MRA] commitment to making this campus what it is," said Mantzavinos. "This campus is an integral and important piece of Delaware's life science ecosystem."
